On 15 March 1865 of William Henry Placeway married to Caroline R. Salmon, the daughter of Simeon and Martha Ann Salmon. The ceremony was preformed by Rev. J. O. Bancroft at Hamburg Township, Livingston County, Michigan, and witnessed by William Placeway and S. D. Salmon. William and Caroline had three known children; Ettie, Lola A., and Mabel. Caroline died 8 Oct 1881 and William later remarried to Arvilla Louise Spaulding. William and Arvilla had twin sons, Brayton and Clayton Placeway. William died 2 November 1911 while on a visit with his sister, Permilia Bennett. His obituary found in the "Pinckney Dispatch" read: William Henry Placeway, one of Putnam s oldest citizens died suddenly at the home of his sister, Mrs. A. A. Bennett of Ames, Iowa Nov., 2, 1911. He was in fine spirit and thoroughly enjoying his visit when struck by apoplexy and expired almost instantly. He was born in Shiawassee Co., March 2, 1842 and shortly after moved to the old Placeway homestead in Hamburg Township. On March 15, 1865 he married Rhue Caroline Salmon who died Oct. 18, 1881. To this union was born three daughters, Lola A. Placeway, associate Professor of chemistry at Iowa State College, Mrs. Melvin Burgess of Hartland, and Mable the youngest who died at age four. On Feb. 7, 1883 he married to Arvilla L. Spaulding. To Them were born twin sons, Clayton C. and Brayton C., the latter being at the time of his fathers death on the Atlantic en route for Europe. He leaves four surviving sisters, Mrs. Rosina Mercer of Pinckney, Mrs. Romina Placeway of Ypsilanti and Mrs. A. A. Bennett of Ames, Iowa, and one brother, Joseph W. Placeway of Hamburg Township. Arvilla died 1928, both are buried in the Pinckney Protestant Cemetery, Putnam Township, Livingston County, Michigan.
